BEAN MARKET SUMMARY

    BEANS:  Prices remain steady on very light demand and mostly inactive 
trading activity. Transportation of beans continues to be the largest issue 
facing the markets, as railcars are still hard to come by.  Frost and rains have 
held up planting so far in North Dakota, but expect to get in the fields within 
a week or two. 

    Dealer:  PINTO BEANS had a firm undertone.  GREAT NORTHERN BEANS were not 
established.  LIGHT RED KIDNEY BEANS were not established.  DARK RED KIDNEY 
BEANS were not established.  PINK BEANS were not established.  SMALL RED BEANS 
Were no established.  BLACK BEANS were steady.  PEA BEANS were not established. 
GARBANZOS were steady.

    Grower:  PINTO BEANS were steady.  GREAT NORTHERN BEANS were steady.  LIGHT 
RED KIDNEY BEANS were steady.  DARK RED KIDNEY BEANS were not established.  PINK 
BEANS were steady. SMALL RED BEANS were steady.  BLACK BEANS were steady to 1.00 
lower.  PEA BEANS were steady. GARBANZOS were steady.

PEAS AND LENTILS MARKET SUMMARY

IDAHO/WASHINGTON:  Trading activity was slow on moderate buyer demand.

    Dealer: Whole Green Peas had no recent comparison, Pardina Lentils, Brewer 
Lentils, Green Split Peas, Yellow Split Peas, Yellow Whole Peas, and Austrian 
Winter Peas were not established.

    Grower: Whole Green Peas were mostly steady, Whole Yellow Peas, Brewer 
Lentils, Austrian Winter Peas were not established and  Pardina Lentils were 
steady.

NORTH DAKOTA/MONTANA:  Trading activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. 

    Dealer: Whole Green Peas, Yellow Peas, and Richlea were not established. 

    Grower: Whole Green Peas were1.00 lower, Whole Yellow Peas were firm, and 
Richlea Lentils were steady.

CALIFORNIA:  Trading activity has slowed, because producers and warehouses are 
concerned about irrigation availability for next year’s crop. As a result, many 
warehouses are sitting on their current inventory until a better understanding 
of the impacts of the drought are outlined. Trading activity was slow on very 
good buyer demand.

    Dealer: Baby Limas, Large Limas, Blackeye beans, and Garbanzo beans were not 
established.

    Grower: Blackeyes traded steady. Canner Quality Large Limas, Baby Limas, 
Large Limas, and Garbanzo beans were not established.
